Safeguarding Statement

“We are committed to safeguarding, protecting from harm, including exploitation, abuse, bullying and mistreatment and promoting the health, safety and welfare of all our pupils. We expect all staff, volunteers, contractors and visitors to share this commitment. We listen to our pupils and take seriously what they tell us. Our aim is that all pupils will enjoy their learning and make progress whilst a pupil in the Quantock Academy of schools.”

Who to contact

The Designated Safeguarding Lead in each school is the focal point for concerns about an individual child’s safety and the first point of contact for external agencies that are pursuing safeguarding concerns

When an individual concern/incident is brought to the notice of the Designated Safeguarding Lead at an individual school, they will be responsible for deciding upon whether or not this should be reported to Somerset Direct as a safeguarding issue and the action to be taken. Where there is any doubt as to the seriousness of this concern, or disagreement between the Designated Safeguarding Lead and the person reporting the concern, advice will be sought from the Chief Executive Officer. If concerns persist then the Chair of Governors should be contacted. The unusual step of contacting Somerset Direct on 0300 123 2224 can be taken if anyone wants to report concerns regarding the safety of a child at any time.

If there is a concern about a member of staff acting inappropriately towards a child then these concerns should be passed on to the Headteacher of the school immediately. If a member of staff is not satisfied by the outcome then contact should be made with the Chief Executive Officer (Paul Rushforth). If the concern relates to the Headteacher then  concerns should be passed to the Chief Executive Officer immediately. If the concerns relate to the Chief Executive Officer then contact should be made to the Chair of Governors immediately (Cerys Randell).
